JACOB SHINE LIBRARY

A view of the inside of the Jacob Shine Library

The Jacob Shine library, housed in the Manchester Jewish Community Centre was set up in 1983 as a Torah and children’s library. For the last 38 years it has served and been a huge asset for the Manchester Jewish community with ‘kosher’ reading and listening material, catering for all ages, all interests and all abilities.

At the library, the selection of books available is so diversified that there is something to meet everyone’s taste – books for little ones, comics, books for adolescents, reference books, novels for all ages, non-fiction, cookery books as well as tapes and CDs of lectures from a wide range of speakers and educators and music and story tapes for children.

As the Jewish community grows, so too has the library grown and now we have over 16,000 books, tapes, magazines and CDs available to be borrowed.

We have all the latest English Torah publications plus a huge range of older books now out of print and unobtainable.

We have close to 350 families that come regularly to use the library and as at the community grows, we expect that number is increase too.
